At Avant Studio, we use different metals and manufacturing methods to achieve different looks. Majority of our gold pieces are plated with multiple layers of 18K gold on a 925 Sterling silver base. All of our silver pieces are solid 925 sterling silver. You will find the type of metal content and method of your specific product in the details section of the product page. If you have any metal allergies, we recommend reading the care techniques in the information below. If you have any queries, please email us at hello@avantstudio.com.au
Gold Plating/Vermeil
Avant Studio gold jewellery pieces are made using multiple layers of 18K gold plated on to a base of sterling silver. The term "Vermeil" refers specifically to plating that has a 925 Sterling Silver base metal with a thicker layer of gold plating, typically at least 2-2.5 microns. Gold Vermeil is a more affordable option than solid gold, but is more durable and long-lasting then traditional gold plated jewellery. With regular care and storage, your pieces will last well. If exposed to boiling water, harsh detergents, oils and perfumes, eventually the coating will wear down, leaving you with a paler shade of gold, closer to its silver base.
To extend the lifetime of the plating, as well as avoiding oils and detergents, we suggest removing when exercising, in saunas and hot baths. Casual exposure to water is suitable but we suggest cleaning after each use.
How to Clean: Despite Gold Vermeil having a longer life-span than traditional gold plated pieces, we still recommend avoiding contact with any harsh chemicals or liquids that can wear down the gold plated layer. Clean Gold Vermeil pieces with a polishing cloth to maintain its shine.
Solid Gold
Solid Gold jewellery is the highest in price and purity. Solid gold’s value comes from its radiant colour and shine. It is also highly valued because it doesn’t tarnish or fade with time. Pure solid gold is very malleable and soft and is therefore often mixed with other alloys to increase its durability for everyday pieces. Our current range from the Avant Atelier is crafted in 14K gold.
How to Clean: Solid gold pieces are designed to last a lifetime however will occasionally need a polish to maintain its shine. To clean your solid gold pieces, use soap and warm water with a soft bristled brush.
925 Sterling Silver
At Avant Studio, all of our silver pieces are the highest quality of 925 silver. Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% the addition of copper makes silver strong and durable. The number “925” is used to specify that a metal is sterling silver.
How to Clean: To clean silver pieces, we suggest using a soft, dry polishing cloth and silver specific cleaning solution to maintain shine and keep your pieces clean. Avoid any abrasive materials or cleaning tools that could scratch the silver.
